Meet Eliot, our high school intern
My name is Eliot
Ladowitz and I am a senior at Reynoldsburg High School Summit campus in the eSTEM
academy. I have lived in Reynoldsburg my whole life and I play baseball for the
high school baseball team. As a part of my coursework this year, we are
required to do an internship at an organization of our choice. Since I am
looking to study Early Childhood Education in college and become an elementary
teacher, I thought it would be a great opportunity to work at Summit Road
Elementary. I have been working with your son or daughter for a couple of weeks
now on their different assignments and activities, such as sound focus
assessments and timed math exercises. I am thankful to have this chance to work
with your child and I’m looking forward to helping them this school year.

Worm Observations Part 1
Some of our worm observations.... We drew, labeled, measured, and more! It was kind of tough to get the worms to hold still while measuring. Some of the worms were full of energy. After we observed, the worms were finally put into our compost bin. Monday or Tuesday we will be doing round two with the other half of the class. To be continued...
Goodbye Banana Breakdown
We had alot of fun with our banana's but it was about time to get rid of them! It was very interesting to see what happened to each groups bananas with the different variables. Ask your child what happened to their groups bananas?!

Recycled Goods
Our class really good into the STEM challenge of bringing in recycled goods!!! We sorted our goods and counted to make a bar graph which we have also been learning about in math.
As we are learning about conservation, our class created a powerpoint presentation that I can try to download tomorrow and post. In the powerpoint, we asked Mrs. Martindale about our idea of how we would like to reuse our straws and sporks from breakfast.
First, we talked about how to get Mrs. Martindale to come into our classroom to see our presentation. The class decided to make an invitation to give her time periods and days when we were available to see if she could meet with us during any of those times. Then we talked about how to get this invitation to her so we took the large piece of chart paper and make it into a paper airplane for, "air mail." Mrs. Martindale loved it and returned her rsvp in the form of air mail as well.
Finally, she met with us and was very impressed with the powerpoint presentation. She said that were allowed to wash the straws and sporks like we had been doing and "repurpose" them by continuing to give to Mrs. G in the innovation station. Then the suggestion was also made that we could wash the sporks and straws and use them by ourselves, not each other, if they are put into a baggie just for the week and then we recycle them not throw them out. Apparently, they also wanted to do this at lunch because I heard from another teacher that there were students that asking to use the restroom to wash their straws and put them in their baggies to reuse throughout the week. I think that this whole experience has been awesome!! I know that some of you have seen at home the excessive reusing of some things at home. I'm sorry but it is bettering the environment!!!
Look for the powerpoint to be posted soon!!!
